Cyclo-cross is an event characterized by the riding of a bicycle over a variety of terrain, consisting of pavement, grass, sand, gravel, dirt, and, occasionally, mud. In cyclo-cross races, riders must navigate over obstacles such as tree branches, steps, and temporarily-placed, artificial barriers during each event.
