| Funfest Race Course | From the parking lot, go down the road past the dam (don't ride across the dam) and you will see a gated road on the right at the base of the dam. Go across the chain and up the hill. At the top of the hill bear right and begin. The first mile or so is relatively flat and runs along the lake. The road begins to climb a little and then Bam! it gets nasty. The first climb is about 600 feet and then you roll along the ridge top until you get to another short, steep climb then you go down. At the bottom, turn right and proceed back toward the maintenance bldg. Stay on the main road and you'll be ok. This section is relatively flat to rolling. After the maintenance building, you will come to a âTâ with a gated road on the left. Go around the gate and climb the hill. You will find most of the climbing in this section as you are faced with one climb right after another. Once you climb and pass the firetower you will hit the firetower descent be careful as erosion has damaged the road badly in the past few years. It gets pretty rough. At the bottom, turn left and head back down the Lake Road a second time. Once you come to the maintenance building again, you are done. |
This is the same course used each year in the annual Funfest Mountain Bike Rally. It gets its difficult rating from the lung busting climbs that never let up. Riding this course will get you strong for sure. If you can do it in an hour or less, consider yourself very fit. The current course record is 44:26. This is a good place to ride in the winter or when it's too wet to ride any other trails.
