Area ::: Abingdon,Beartree/ Damascus, VA
Home of the Virgina Creeper trail and Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (NRA), the Abingdon/Damacus Virginia area has riding from absolute beginner to absolutley insane. There are over 200 miles of legal multi-use trails in the NRA with over 100 of them in the immediate Damascus area.

Unless you are riding the Creeper, this is definitely a place you want to go with someone who knows the trails. With over 100 miles of trails, and many of them fairly technical, you could easily get lost. Don't let this scare you away however. Several NTMBA epic rides take place here every year.

For more info on the area check out: http://www.bikeguy.net/

Area ::: Bays Mountain Park, Kingsport
3,000 acres of prime woodland owned and maintained by the city of Kingsport. Featuring 22 miles of hiking trails, mountain biking on fire roads, a nature preserve, a 44 acre lake and a planetarium.

Directions:

Area ::: Buffalo Mountain, Johnson City
Part of the Cherokee Nat'l Forest, there are seven main trails at Buffalo: Green Mile, Black Widow, Number 1, Rustic Ridge, Church, Orange (aka Blue) and Mud Holler. In addition, there are several miles of fire roads to ride on.

Due to the difficulty and the fact that most of the trails are unmarked, it is best to visit Buffalo with someone who knows the area.

Directions: From Johnson City, Take I-26 to exit 31, go left on University Pkwy (towards ETSU). Turn left at Cherokee Rd and go approx 2 miles to Lone Oak Rd (across from Cherokee Elem.) Turn left on Lone Oak and follow (it becomes Dry Creek Rd after 1 mile) it to the top of the mountain. Park on the right side of the road (across from the ATV parking lot).

Area ::: Warriors Path State Park, Kingsport
Warriors Path is a mini mecca of mountain biking located within the city limits of Kingsport.

Currently there is about 8 miles of singletrack that ranges from moderate to very technical. Given the geographic nature of the property, the trails are naturally rocky, rooty and very demanding in places. Great care has been taken during the planning and construction of the trails to yield a durable, maintenance-free trail system that will last for quite some time.Plans are in the works to add to the trails over the winter of 2004-05 with what is already there, there will be nearly 14 miles of trails when they are completed.

Directions: From Kingsport and surrounding areas. Follow the signs to the entrance of Warriors Path S.P. At the main entrance, bear left and head out Fall Creek Rd (past the golf course)for about 1.2 miles to Old Mill, turn right on Old Mill. Follow Old Mill until it ends and turn right and then immediately left onto Buttermilk Rd. Follow Buttermilk approx 1.2 miles to Freeman Rd, turn right. Freeman Rd dead-ends at the trailhead. There's good signage from the park entrance so just follow the signs if you are unsure.

Warriors is a good example of what can happen when a user group and land managment get together for the benefit of both. Warriors would not be possible without the contribution of both park personnel and NTMBA members who dedicated vaulable time and resources to the project.
